Handshake launches free course for HE leaders

Collaborative programme promises practical support in designing careers services for the future

As the HE sector works to rebuild from Covid challenges, university leaders are turning their attention towards what a post-pandemic university experience might look like. But when budgets are squeezed and time is tight, it’s often difficult to take time away from the day-to-day, to strategise, build plans and consider the future.

That’s why, as part of its Early Career Recovery Fund, Handshake is offering a free CPD course for careers services professionals. Running from 28th June to 15th July, Careers2030 is an accredited event for emerging leaders, with the goal of creating a more equitable university to career transition for every student.

Unlike other conferences and events in the sector, Careers2030 is a collaborative and immersive programme which promises to help delegates apply the concept of ‘Design Thinking’ to their own institutions' challenges. Participants will work in small groups made up of professionals from different universities, backgrounds, and roles - offering unique perspectives, best practice sharing and professional networking. They will also be introduced to real-time collaboration tools like Miro, and develop working strategies to make a material impact on their own institution.

Each team will have a video summary of their idea created for them by a professional video editor. And crucially, the event promises to be lots of fun!

Careers 2030 will culminate with a virtual celebration and award ceremony where winning teams will receive £1,500 funding to implement their vision. The event boasts an impressive line-up of judges and panellists, including: Debbie McVitty, Editor, Wonkhe, Paul Gratrick, Head of Operations, University of Liverpool AGCAS Director - and Greg Wade, Higher Education Policy Adviser, Universities UK.
